STILL/LIFE, our fourth collaboration with Armature Projects, celebrates three classic genres in art—portraiture, still life, and landscape—while exploring how contemporary artists are pushing their boundaries in compelling ways. From Joel Baca’s fragmented portraits challenging traditional representation to Mary Breneman’s exuberant naturalistic scenes, the pieces on display invite viewers to consider the ongoing evolution of these traditional genres through the use of innovative techniques, bold colors, and unexpected elements of fantasy and abstraction. By juxtaposing these versatile works and styles, STILL/LIFE highlights the interconnectedness of artistic expression across various forms.
