In and Out, our latest collaboration with the art advisory Armature Projects, explores the dynamic relationship between New York City’s public landscape and its most private interiors, revealing the poetry inherent in both realms.

The two-person exhibition presents new paintings by Mary Breneman and Derek Buckner, artists uniquely attuned to the subtle rhythms and often-overlooked nuances of urban life. Breneman translates the city’s water towers, façades, and streetscapes into refined studies of geometric abstraction. Buckner, by contrast, moves between the industrial edges of the Gowanus waterfront to intimate domestic interiors, where he captures the charming and illuminating elements of personal spaces, with special attention paid to architectural details and textiles.

Together, Breneman and Buckner demonstrate how painting continues to offer fresh perspectives on urban life, from its monumental skyline to the intimate textures of home.
