Wayne Pate: RECENT WORKS

Instantly recognized for its classical forms, early colors, and allusions to ancient civilizations,
Texas-born, Brooklyn-based artist Wayne Pate’s work reflects a journey from childhood fascinations with distant lands and museum explorations to an adult life enriched by global cultures.

Over the past few years, his art has evolved to intuitive creations that symbolize a reconciliation of his experiences. Pate describes this current phase as a return to port after a long voyage, highlighting a shift towards simplicity and reflection. His recurring botanical themes and “scratch” motifs, where some are carved into the paint on a panel, create a fascinating dialogue with the Fort Street Studio rugs displayed alongside that feature distinctive motifs woven or braided into their designs.
