The newest addition to Fort Street Studio’s line of hand-knotted wool carpets is Shield. While on an artistic retreat in lush and verdant Ubud, Bali, Studio co-Principle and co-Creative Director Brad Davis was inspired by the culture’s long tradition of decorative arts, which relies on motifs and themes derived from local vegetation. This intricate design is reminiscent of traditional wood carvings that had been weathered over time, where rough patches interplay with shiny well-hewn areas.
The design is interpreted in hand processed, high-altitude wool and cultivated silk, according to time treasured Persian hand-knotting techniques. Meticulous dyeing of the yarns produce complexity and depth of color which enrich the overall aspect of the carpet. Shimmery cultivated silk accents create a subtle glow from within, that is a delightful expansion of Fort Street Studio’s repertoire of beautifully hand-crafted carpets.
