Design Inspiration
After first debuting its line of wool carpets in 2013, Fort Street Studio continues to extend its artistic, painterly aesthetic within this new medium. The Studio’s most recent offering is the design MODE.
Co-Principal and Co-Creative Director Janis Provisor created the original painting that inspired this design while on a trip to Bali, overlooking a grey sky and amorphous fog. The black dots act as an informal framing device, giving the carpet a visual edge. Mixing in silk adds a glisten and shimmer to the overall effect. The artist views their new medium of wool and silk as another “mode” of expression for the Studio’s watercolor technique.
The design is interpreted in a blend of hand processed, high-altitude wool and cultivated silk, using time treasured Tibetan hand-knotting techniques. Meticulous dyeing of the yarns produce complexity and depth of color which enrich the overall aspect of the carpet. The blending of wool and silk creates a shimmery mix that is a delightful expansion of Fort Street Studio’s repertoire of beautifully hand-crafted carpets.
