Design Inspiration
KARST’s design is based on a watercolor painting by Principals Janis Provisor and Brad Davis, but the artists and designers couldn’t settle on the exact coloring that would translate best into a rug. Then, during a stay in Italy, the couple visited Castelluccio, the largest karst valley in Italy near the town of Norcia. There they gazed upon the unique topography, field after field of wild plants and flowers that stretched for miles. Following that visit, they knew what color their newest carpet should be – green!
The design is interpreted in a blend of hand processed, high-altitude wool and cultivated silk, using time treasured hand-knotting techniques. The rug is Tibetan-knot cut pile, but is accented with areas of flatwoven wool. Meticulous dyeing of the yarns produce complexity and depth of color which enrich the overall aspect of the carpet.
